There’s another name in the race to replace Kansas Senator Pat Roberts when he retires at the end of his current term.  Manhattan City Commissioner Usha Reddi announced over the weekend she’s running for the Democrat Party’s nomination for the United States Senate.  Reddi has a background in education and seeks to become the first Hindu in the Senate.

She also becomes the 4th democrat to run for the office, joining former US Attorney Barry Grissom, former congresswoman Nancy Boyda and court services officer Robert Tillman.

Five republicans have announced a run.  Conservative commentator Bryan Pruitt, State Treasurer Jake LaTurner, former Kansas Secretart of State Kris Kobach, Kansas Senate President Susan Wagle and former Kansas City Chiefs player and Kansas City Area businessman Dave Lindstrom.

The seat held by Roberts is a significant one, as the outgoing 4-term senator is the chair of the Senate Ag Committee, positioning Kansas farmers and ranchers in a prominent place in Washington, D.C.
