Kansas is one of 15 states to participate in this week’s African Swine Fever functional exercise being led by the US Department of Agriculture. The drill will test participants abilities to respond to a simulated animal disease event.

The Kansas Department of Agriculture annually conducts statewide exercises to practice the state’s ability to respond to a foreign animal disease outbreak…this time it’s been expanded to include the federal government along with agencies from 14 other states.

The functional exercise is a simulation of real-world responses to disease issues using veterinarian lab and test results, resource coordination, disease mitigation and public education.
